Friends,
I am pumped to let tell you that we have a new proposed mission statement for The Watershed.
It has come after a couple of months of prayer and discernment from our Vision Team. We have been trying to take a snapshot of our current congregation and have asked God to inspire us, convict us, and create us as a congregation.
We have been reminded of the many free community events that we plan in order to bless our community in the name of Christ. We have been reminded of the incredible friendships God is building through worship, Deeper Groups and service teams.
We have been reminded of your generosity in building a wheelchair ramp for a friend, adopting a shut-in lady in our community, and passionately donating money to dig deep water wells in developing nations.
As we have thought about our local community, we have noticed a yearning for meaningful relationships in an area where we barely know our neighbors.
We have been moved to compassion as we have seen ourselves and our neighbors look for meaning in every other place than the one place we can find it - in Christ. We have noticed our efforts to center our lives on work, recreation, our children, and so many other things.
And finally, we have gotten excited about how God seems to be using your faithfulness as a church to inspire others to want to get to know Christ better.
That's why we think this mission statement captures our direction as a church. We hope it is memorable, challenging, and inspiring to you and to others for years to come. We hope it makes you want to join us on this journey if you haven't already done so. So here it is:
Our mission: Shedding God's love to inspire Christ-centered living.
Keep watching for more vision work to come in the coming weeks. We'll eventually report out all that we have done in a way that will give each of you a chance to give feedback. You can even start giving us your feedback today if you want!
I am excited to pastor a church that is clear and getting clearer all the time about who God has called us to be. I'm excited that God has given us a tool to gauge how we're doing against this vision. I'm just plain excited!
See you next Sunday!
