I’m excited to tell you that we have several families who are going to join The Watershed as partners this Sunday at the end of the worship service! That means there will be several more people helping us become the church God wants us to be. When we take in new partners, I like to take an opportunity and talk about what that means here at The Watershed Church.
What we call partnership is akin to what so many churches call membership, and yet it is very different. In our culture, we think of membership having its privileges - what’s in it for me, we ask. But following Jesus, the better way to think of membership is that it has its responsibilities - how can I serve Christ faithfully here at this church? That’s why we prefer the term partnership. We want people to see themselves as partnering with us in the gospel, putting their prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness at God’s disposal in order to ripple the love of Christ into the community.
We’re very clear that everyone is welcome to worship with us and be a part of what God is doing here without becoming partners. Partnership is for those people who are ready to take the next step of commitment here, those who believe in the vision that God has put in front of us and who are ready to partner with us in reaching that vision.
This Sunday will be an exciting day at The Watershed. Come meet the newest partners among us. Come thank God for bringing new faces, new stories, new co-laborers. See you there!
